gardening mojo...

Posted on 01:32 by Unknown

I have a small confession.
I have lost my gardening mojo.
I haven't visited my allotment since March!
All I have planted in the ground are potatoes, garlic and onions and it's dubious whether these will amount to anything as I haven't been up to water or weed them.
I've just been busy doing other things... life seems to just get in my way!
I feel guilty ... and the guilt is eating me up!

Last night I went along to the monthly WI meeting.
This months talk was given by the very lovely and oh so green fingered Lia Leendertz who writes the gardening section of the guardian newspaper and her own blog Midnight Brambling.
Lia's talk last night was wonderful, she spoke of gardening in pots, what vegetables thrive, when it's best to sow coriander, what to use to feed your plants and how to deal with slugs (snip them with scissors apparently!).
I felt inspired!
We were then let loose on compost and planted up a little plug plant of Chervil in a tin can.

So... sitting here now, I have little darling herb plants waiting to be planted..
A tomato and a butternut squash waving at me.
And a couple of alpine strawberry plants slowly crisping in the sunshine...
Time to get on and ENJOY gardening again.

I WILL go up to the allotment... but not today.
I need Dan to come and hold my hand as I may faint at the jungle that awaits...
Today I will get on with jobs in the garden and I may make another macramé plant holder or two!

new stockist... Tenderfoot

Posted on 04:49 by Unknown

I am super excited about this.
I have a new stockist - the mightily superb and Bristol's own - Tenderfoot.
Tenderfoot have agreed to stock my prints, cards and postcards!
Whoop!
A couple of weeks ago I went along to meet Lori in her cute shop/workshop space in Brislington, Bristol.
Here's a little bit about Tenderfoot:

Tenderfoot is Helen England and Lori MacAlpine-Smith. We are two ladies on a mission to bring Bristol's local handmade artists to your home! At Tenderfoot you will find a huge range of handmade products,by local artists, and giftwares carefully selected by us. We have a tiny gallery that displays new and upcoming artitsts and we also help you nuture the artist from within with our workshops and crafty parties and events. All and all Tenderfoot is Brislington's home for the creatives. But soon we hope to take over the world.

Rufus and I happily pottered around the shop, delighting at the gorgeous handmade creations.
Out the back we found the Victorian parlour with cast iron fireplace, polka dot oilcloth, festooned with pretty bunting and original artwork.  This space is the workshop a place to make and create.
Tenderfoot run regular kids and adults workshops from making soap to cake and craft nights.
Oh and Bristol parents - they do super cute kid birthday workshops too!
Please do go and checkout their website, facebook page and blog... say hi to the ladies for me!

Morning!
Tuesday Treasury.
Some of weekly favourites.
I've actually bought 2 of these items.. can you see which (the ones which say sold!, doh!)
Thanks for all your comments on the great saltwater sandal debate.
I bought some from Modcloth in the end. All the way from the States.
It worked out nearly half the price of the ones from Toast!
So I have a new pair in Navy winging their way to me ... and this vintage pair in white above also coming.
My toes won't know what to do!
Have a great day!

a mini adventure...

Posted on 00:30 by Unknown

Wowsers!
It has been HOT!
And I have been loving it.
This weekend we visited Charlie's school for their annual summer fair.
Bouncy castles, face painting, wet sponges thrown at Dads in stocks, etc
Hot, sweaty and fast paced.
We felt exhausted after half an hour!
So to escape some of the heat we took ourselves off to the cooling canopy of the woods.
A bike ride through our second home (we are always there).
To a spot with the best view of Bristol.
For hot dogs and marshmallows cooked on the fire.
Bliss!
Plus I had a couple of glasses of vino in the sunshine, which made for a free-wheeling merry ride home!
Hope you all had a loving and fun filled weekend too.

the visit of the olympic torch...

Posted on 10:12 by Unknown

Last Tuesday the Olympic torch floated into Bristol's harbour side on it's tour around the country to mark the start of the Olympic games this summer.
I wasn't expecting to see so many people or the show that was laid on.
I honestly thought we would be one of about 100 people... oh how wrong was I?
Thousands upon thousands of people lined the harbour side waiting for the flame to come under the bridge.
It was a gloriously sunny evening, and a real festival atmosphere.
The torch came through the water with a flotilla of yachts and rowing boats. Once it reached the harbour wall, the torch was passed on and it was then carried on to the stage where it ignited the cauldron.
Music played and the old fire brigade boat showed off by squirting it's hoses to mark the occasion.
Acrobats and street performers then took over to the sounds of proper Bristol music, Roni Size and Massive Attack.
I love Bristol... we have some style.

Now that summer is finally here..
I have become increasingly obsessed with sandals.
Not just any sandals... a particular brand, a trendy, oh so super cool brand.
A brand that all the best dressed mummy bloggers are wearing.
SALTWATERS
Oh god I want a pair!
Two of the best dressed mummy's on the school run own a couple of pairs and I sigh every time I see there adorned toes!
Yes I am jealous!
Good job they are lovely as I might get really cross with them - ladies you know who you are!
Toast has sold out of them all except for the white.
But I can't justify spending £50 on sandals when we have so many other things to buy around the house and for the boys...
HUMPF!

So what do I do?
I do what every other woman does... obsess and try on every other pair of sandal I can find.
There are some super cute ones out there too.
Check out the McQueen Neon ones! Gorgeous. - outta my league.
I've also found a pair of vintage saltwaters on Etsy..for a fraction of the price of new.
Could this be the answer?
Would you wear second hand shoes?

New Forest Holiday - Part 2...

Posted on 02:27 by Unknown

Hello!
My second instalment of our holiday in the forest.
We went on many bike rides... some in glorious sunshine, others splashing through deep muddy puddles in torrential rain.
All were tremendous fun.
I am officially now a bike riding fan... much to the joy of my family (who have known of this pleasure for some time!).
Before the holiday Dan bought me a second hand Raleigh bike... I turned my nose up at it.
But oh how wrong could I be... I love it so much.. and am planning biking holidays all summer!
Already I have been looking at baskets and bells to customise it. Yes I am always looking how to pretty something up!
I love the New Forest... miles of beautiful ancient woodland... car free bike riding.

Happy Tuesday lovely people!
Here's a little treasury of some of my Etsy favourites at the moment.
I am totally loving that turquoise phone, my phone has an annoying clicking sound all the time.
Time for a change I think.
I am loving these earthy tones too....
What do you think?
A change from brights and pastels?
