the henge in the sunshine..

Yesterday, on way back from the New Forest, we took the scenic route via Wiltshire and Somerset to home.
On the way we stopped off at Stonehenge for a visit.
It was the boys first time to visit the henge, and as we tend to make model replica's at home using wooden blocks, I thought this would be a great opportunity for them to see it in real life and show them some of our countries historical heritage.
It is such a shame that the stones are roped off so we can no longer touch them and feel the history.
Dan and I, many moons ago, went to several Summer Solstice celebrations.
We have danced to drums and watched the Druids ceremony as the sun rose on mid-summer's day.
I have sat on one of the stone's lying on it's side and watch people jump and twirl, eat fire and have a crazy time.
Maybe my boys will get to do this in the future... it's a UK tradition.
But now at the age they are, they were pretty unimpressed.
Ah well.
